Birth Ed Qs

It depends. It depends on the model of care families are seeking and personal preferences among many other factors.

Most hospitals and providers in traditional care models practice provider-centered birth classes/workshops. This means that the information provided to couples including those with low-risk, normal, healthy pregnancies often support and promote the expectation of medical induction and other high-intervention practices that may not be medically necessary and may be framed to suit a care provider’s schedule and/or benefit the facility quotas. While this is certainly not every hospital or provider, the evidence and data trends support that this is still the common practice for non-independent birth education in the United States as of today.

Additionally, most of these classes teach from a ‘cope with and manage pain’ foundation that implies and/or outright advises that induction, medications, episiotomies, and even a cesarean surgery will "likely be needed" for the average birth experience, including those that are low-risk and healthy. And, aside from any breathing or general relaxation techniques covered, the full range of proven effective tools and body-comfort measures available are typically not covered. There is also often no or little discussion that truly supports an informed consent/decision model of communication or for a parent-supported physiological model of birth if that's what a family envisions. Ultimately, these classes are often based on a "do-to" model versus a model that supports the parents being active, decision-making participants in their baby's birth experience.

Independent and certified birth education programs, like what we offer here at Glow Mama is NOT influenced or funded by any specific hospital or care provider which means YOU and your birth vision are at the center of the education provided - whatever and wherever that is, we're here to be your ally. Most important, the birth education and self-hypnosis tools you learn can be used at any birth location with or without partner/birth team support and no matter the birthing circumstances. These are 100% self-empowered, birthing-person guided and directed tools.

The best parent-centered independent birth education programs help parents navigate through all of the evidence-based information in a way that is supportive, informative, comprehensive of all options/pros/cons, AND provides medically proven-effective tools and resources like childbirth hypnosis. The Glow Mama birth education model is centered around the belief that the well-being of mom and baby as well as informed consent and informed decision making should be at the center of all care. We believe in a "birthing person-centered" model that supports the parents in their birth vision as well as providing an entire range resources, techniques, and proven-effective tools for an informed and empowered birth. We also recognize that the overwhelming grand majority of births are extremely low risk and healthy which makes vaginal birth the safest and often the most comfortable option for mom and baby.

Glow Mama’s holistic childbirth education + Hypnobabies childbirth hypnosis program reminds a woman how to work with her body and how to use extremely effective tools that self-activate deep relaxation which allows for self-hypnosis and “flow” into a more comfortable, safer, and empowered birthing experience. And, as a cornerstone, couples will also be prepared with comprehensive knowledge so that they can support each other and make informed decisions with their care providers no matter the birthing location or circumstances. This program covers: birth education, deep relaxation, self-hypnosis, an EXCELLENT series of mp3 tracks that coordinate and align with the program, visualization, and affirmations - all packaged in an easy-to-follow, week-to-week framework for you.

NOTE: We know of and fully support the many beautiful and amazing births that happen across the U.S. every single day in diverse birth settings, including, of course, hospitals of all sorts. And we believe that the technology, medication, and surgical options available today can be life-saving and supportive for both mom and baby. We 100% support and advocate for birth at all locations to the parents’ comfort and preference. This Q&A is specific to the differences between provider-centered v. parent-centered birth education trends/options in today's world.

A huge part of good birth education is about promoting a strong foundation of communication at all levels - providing the tools, resources and questions to promote a healthy dialogue and foundation between you, your birth team, and your care provider(s). All conversations around health and the health of the baby should feel supportive, informed, and empowering; and, decisions should also be 100% respected.

Keep in mind that you are hiring every member of your birth team to be on YOUR team. Is there a potential for a change of plans or special circumstance or maybe a different timeline than expected? Yes. And, any concerns they/you have can be brought up and addressed in advance or as they come up and should be a healthy dialogue which includes the full range of pros/cons/considerations. Ultimately, it is the care providers legal and ethical responsibility to ensure that you have all of the information to make an informed, non-biased/independent decision and for all decisions around your health and the health of your baby to be honored. The very best care providers build your knowledge, support you in a 360 way, and are as excited as you are for the very best and healthiest birth outcome. Birth education adds to the toolbox so that parents can understand and engage with these conversations with confidence.

Communication should feel safe, respectful, and thorough no matter the circumstance. It should also be evidence-based and your body/decision should be respected at every single step of the journey; including your right to decline/say no. Heard of BRAINS? These are the questions you can ask if you feel like you need more information, your internal radar is going off, or you feel confused about something being suggested or offered:

  • B – What are the benefits of __ ?
  • R – What are the risks of __ ?
  • A – What are the alternatives?
  • I – What do my instincts say? (this is your internal gut check)
  • N – Care Provider, what happens if I do nothing?
  • S – Thanks, please provide me/us with some space and time to decide.

Here are some additional signs that indicate you may want to consider a deeper follow-up conversation with your care provider so that you understand the “why” and have a good comfort level with your go-forward partnership:

  • The location or specific care provider has a stated or in-writing policy against birth plans/doulas/partners in the birth space.
  • The location or specific care provider does “allow” birth education outside of what they offer.
  • Leave appointments feeling somewhat supported, but not fully. Or, leave appointments feeling “off.”
  • Feeling like one might have to fully justify and explain the birth vision in a way that feels contentious (with the hospital or provider).
  • Induction or cesarean that is not medically necessary is offered/promoted ahead of the best guess date which also is sometime around the holidays or a provider’s time out of office.
  • A prenatal service/choice that is declined through informed choice is dismissed, not respected or overriden without consent.
  • Provider doesn’t provide care that is supported by best research and evidence. (“Well, we don’t do it that way because we feel...” or “Well, we’ve always done it this way so...”).
  • Conversations about birth preferences end with a feeling of either giving-in or having to defend/justify.
  • Provider shares call with other physicians who may not share the same philosophies on birth and/or your provider “cannot guarantee” other attending providers “can honor/align/allow” certain birth preferences.
  • Birth preferences are dismissed, laughed at, or patronized directly, indirectly, or in passing.
  • A parent is repeatedly told how they will feel or experience the birth of their baby and it's consistently not positive.
  • The following phrases: “We might be able to support that, “We don’t allow that here,” “Hospital policy says that we can’t,” “I can’t let you,” “We don’t allow that,” etc.
  • Prenatal care is usually by a nurse practitioner and rarely with or have-yet-to-meet the person you have hired to be at the birth. And/or it is difficult to schedule time with the chosen care provider.
  • Provider statistics are not readily available upon request.
  • The internal radar/gut-check is telling you something is really off.

At Glow Mama, we’ve partnered with our friends at Birth Monopoly and Motherboard Birth to provide our clients with the very best and most up-to-date information for parents around birth rights, informed consent, and communication tools/guides for your safest and most self-empowered birth. Some women take classes early in their pregnancy because practicing Hypnobabies techniques and self-hypnosis through their pregnancy helps them to be relaxed, comfortable and confident for duration. Others start later, at 6 or 7 months, when they know they are ready to devote 30-40 minutes daily to practicing. We recommend you begin between 28-30 weeks if possible with month 7 being the very latest the program should be started.

The Hypnobabies complete childbirth education program are designed within 6 interactive and comprehensive classes, and the focus is on pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. It’s helpful to start in the 28-30 week timeframe so that parents can be as empowered and present through their experience as possible without a feeling rushed or overwhelmed towards the last trimester. Also, in the final weeks, most women tend to go inward and their awareness often moves into deeper synchronization and bonding with their baby, natural rhythms, and a gentler flow in all things. It’s an enchanting place and one where great insight, wisdom, and preparation happens for mom and baby.

We did the math - here’s a handy quick reference as a general guideline...

If you’re best guess (due) month is: ▷▷ January, start the class by November or sooner

Hypnosis Qs

Good, solid birth education, affirmations, and visualization are tools that work with the conscious (our everyday thinking) mind and they are extremely important for the mental preparation of the birth experience/create awareness around what to expect.

Self-hypnosis, advanced deepening techniques, and a purposeful practice of relaxation/mindful breathing are the tools that work with the sub/unconscious minds on purpose and with intention - and by extension our autonomic and automatic body responses. In birth, all systems are a go and alignment of the mental, emotional, and body systems are what ultimately creates a safer, easier, and more comfortable physical experience overall. Childbirth hypnosis aims to provide parents with a range of tools they can use real-time through pregnancy and birth. It also aims to target and release both known and unknown fears/anxieties a person may be holding around birth. Through self-hypnosis, the individual then creates their own custom, very efficient "super highway" to the part of the inner-self that holds their "control panel" and birth folders (which hold ALL beliefs and assumptions about birth, parenting, etc.). Parents customize their personal control panels, create clear instructions for their mind and body, and then practice using their "control panel" over and over so that when it's birthday time, all of the tools are ready, available, and the mind, heart, and body are working in harmonized alignment for a safer, easier, and more comfortable birth.

VERY powerful and effective stuff!

Assuming there are no mental wellness considerations, mind-altering substances in the body, or special neurological considerations, it is important to remember that hypnosis is a state of mind that we are all already in many times a day; and, it is actually a very natural thing in our lives; it is not an unfamiliar “altered state” of unawareness or control. It is also a state that cannot be forced; it must be willingly entered and the conditions (brain-body-heart + relevance + motivation) must be in alignment to enter into anything past our normal waking brainwave state (beta).

Most people tend to fall into hypnosis-level brainwave states automatically when driving, when they're "in the zone," doing enjoyable hobbies/sports/dancing/performing, sitting in services or a lecture, reading, watching television/movies, etc. And, everyone goes through these states when waking up and going to sleep. Through hypnosis and Hypnobabies, we are simply guiding that process in a very positive way to create an easy, fear-free comfortable childbirth experience.

Additionally, one of the foundations and pillars of truth when working with the mind-heart-body connection is that if a suggestion goes against one's core belief or faith system it will be rejected and/or overridden immediately and the person may even choose to come out of hypnosis to full beta (waking everyday) brainwave state instantly. This happens very quickly because our subconscious is always "on" and listening; and one of the main job's of the subconscious is to keep us safe. This is why ALL hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a gentle and safe state where a person remains in complete control while relaxing and intentionally focusing their mind in positive, intentional, and purposeful ways; it is a state of state of selective and focused attention. Also, All Hypnosis is Self-Hypnosis!

You are always in control of your mind and your body while in hypnosis. You choose to enter hypnosis, stay in hypnosis, accept the suggestions, and emerge from hypnosis at all times.

Hypnosis is a state of relaxation in which you are:

  • In total control and
  • Can accept or reject any suggestions you hear

Hypnosis is not:

  • Being controlled by someone else
  • A loss of self control
  • A state of unconsciousness
  • A state of sleep

Examples of everyday hypnotic states which you have already experienced naturally:

  • Driving the car
  • Riding the elevator
  • Reading, watching TV, movies, computer screens or video
  • Being bored
  • Waking up and going to sleep
  • Daydreaming, drifting off, “zoning out”

OK...tell me more... Hypnosis is a very natural state of being that we all experience many times a day already…to regenerate and renew, and we are simply helping the process along during hypnosis sessions, just like programming a computer to produce a document, project or program that will produce positive results!

Typically people in hypnosis feel both fully aware/focused and very relaxed at the same time. And, despite misconceptions, you are definitely conscious and 100% in control during hypnosis. All hypnosis - yes, all of it - is self-hypnosis. How someone experiences the sensations of hypnosis may vary from individual to individual based on learning and how their sensory system processes. Overall, the average client experiences the move into a hypnotic state in the same way they experience being really into a movie, book, or meditative state - hyper single-focused with purpose and intention. The path to hypnosis often feels the same as the path to normal, healthy relaxation - peaceful and safe.

As it relates to childbirth hypnosis and Hypnobabies®,mom is able to move into a deeply relaxed state while remaining an active participant (totally aware and may return to a conversant state or move around whenever she desires) during the birthing process. Hypno-moms also often find they experience time distortion (a very short labor and quick birth), are able to rest during birth (body + heart + mind) allowing them to to be able to fully focus on the birthing and her baby.

We'll teach you everything you need to know and provide you and your partner the toolbox and the tools so that you can jump right in. No previous background with self-hypnosis is necessary to get full benefit from Hypnobabies. You are always aware of everything around you, and as labor progresses, you’ll go deeper inside yourself, trusting in your body’s natural ability to give birth with ease and comfort. By birthday time, your mind is fully prepared and working in alignment with all of your body systems to be a supportive asset as you give birth to your baby.

NOTE: Antonetta was previously certified with HypnoBirthing the Mongan Method® through 2019; she fully transitioned the birth ed/childbirth hypnosis area of Glow Mama to Hypnobabies® earlier this year, and she is currently certified with Hypnobabies. Antonetta is also separately certified as a hypnosis, neurolinguistic prgroamming, and timeline therapy practitioner (including Hypnobabies, these are 4 distinct and very different certifications); this combination of professional certifications is very rare and there are only a few practitioners across the United States that meet this criteria AND are also certified as childbirth educators.

You are in very good hands, and you are also 100% in control.

In hypnosis you access your subconscious, the suggestible more powerful part of your mind where real, lasting change takes place. You may have heard it said that we only use 10% of our brain; hypnosis is a way to get access to that other 90% . Especially in habit and pain control, this eliminates any internal battle that may occur.

Fact:Any person who has the ability to follow internal (self-talk) or external (listen-based) guidance can and often does engage with self-hypnosis; in fact, we do it to ourselves all of the time without realizing it. All that is necessary is motivation + willingness to achieve a specific outcome. The most effective outcomes will be for a person who has a good reason to engage with the stated suggestions because there is a strong motivation to accomplish the desired outcome. The ability to be engage with self-hypnosis is ultimately dependent upon the ability to relax and simply listen.

For example, if you were going to learn to play the piano, your teacher would point to a particular key and say, “This is middle C.” To you, that is a suggestion. You either accept or reject the fact that the note in question is middle C. If you accept, you will undoubtedly go on and learn to play the piano. If you reject the suggestion, you may eventually learn to play, but it will be a long, hard and confusing process. If you approach hypnosis with confidence, rather than fear, you will achieve your desired goals.

Dave Elman, who instructs dentists in the field of hypnosis for anesthesia, has this to say – “Remove fear [skepticism], and one hundred people out of one hundred will enter hypnosis easily.”

Childbirth Hypnosis Advantages:

  • Many moms use fewer drugs or no drugs, which means less risk of side effects for you and your baby, due to elimination of the Fear/Tension/Pain Syndrome, and by learning, practicing and using post-hypnotic suggestions
  • Shorter labors since there is less resistance of the birthing muscles when pain and fear are minimized or eliminated
  • Relaxation and sustained energy throughout the entire birthing experience
  • The birthing environment is much more calm and peaceful because mom + partner are both relaxed and confident
  • There are fewer interventions for failure to progress and therefore fewer complications during labor for our mothers and babies. Blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature can be lowered and nausea, back and hip pain eliminated with hypnosis during pregnancy and labor
  • Hypnosis for birth “deprograms” the usual negativity and fears surrounding birth which automatically allows for a much more positive attitude and confidence in birthing
  • Nausea can be eliminated
  • Moms sleep better even in late pregnancy
  • Pre-Term labor can be stopped
  • Breech and posterior babies can be encouraged to turn
  • ‘Late’ babies can be encouraged to be born
  • No drugs at all, or very little medication means less risk of side effects on mother and baby
  • Shorter labors (a relaxed mom means her body can do what it already knows how to do)
  • An awake, energized mother, due to total relaxation throughout the entire birthing process
  • A calm, peaceful birthing environment
  • Fewer interventions and complications during labor
  • More alert babies who breastfeed and bond better initially due to no drugs in their systems
  • Mother’s milk production can be enhanced
  • A comfortable postpartum recovery period because hypnosis tools help with any discomforts
  • Our birth partners experience hypnosis in class as well as on their own “Birth Partner Relax and Feel Confident” CD, something that no other childbirth hypnosis program offers!
  • The skills you both learn for relaxation and hypnosis are useful for the rest of your life.

Absolutely! Being in Hypnobabies’ “Eyes-Open Childbirth Hypnosis” is not like being asleep or detached from the sensations of your baby’s birth. You are awake and aware of everything going on around you (if you want to be), and you experience baby’s every movement. You remain deeply in hypnosis, confident and calm and comfortable, even while moving and changing positions. Your Hypnobabies hypno-anesthesia techniques (when learned, practiced and used as directed) allow you to experience all the power of childbirth with much more comfort.

Other childbirth methods tend to teach couples how to ‘cope with and manage pain.’ Glow Mama and Hypnobabies addresses this head on (through gentle and powerful fear release, self-hypnosis, and birth education to re-pattern the expectations at a very deep level), and it is based on the premise that women are able to naturally birth in a more comfortable, supported, and self-empowered way without unnecessary medical interventions. The focus is on the joy of birth as a natural and normal life experience. When it is understood that pain is caused by constrictor hormones (and fear), parents learn how to on-purpose tap into and maintain the ‘feel good hormones’ instead. Endorphins are naturally produced when we are calm and happy and the body is able to produce it in unlimited supply - even through birthing. In fact, the body is 100% designed to wash the body system with endorphins during birth; and, good news - we can not only teach you how to access this but how to do it on demand.

Also, when women and their partners are able to shift their perceptions - adjusting the expectation to a more comfortable and tuned-in birthing experience - there is flow. In addition to complete birth education, Hypnobabies teaches medical-grade hypnosis techqniques that allow them to achieve an often shorter, more self-empowered and comfortable birth for both mom and baby.

We agree – this is a HUGE decision, and it’s one that only you can feel into and know what resonates best with you, your vision, and your particular circumstances.

Glow Mama is built on a foundation that believes the place where self-empowering childbirth education and heart-centered childbirth hypnosis meets is one that honors the infinite potential of one's spirit, flow, and the uniquely beautiful experience that is every birth. Glow Mama approaches birth as a physical, energetic, emotional, and divine experience, and everything we offer aims to align with this foundation while deeply respecting one’s sovereignty and supporting a "your birth - your way" philosophy.

On the professional side, Antonetta offers expertise that is very rare across the birth education and hypnosis spaces; she is the only practitioner in Texas and one of the very few across the United States that holds independent and nationally recognized certifications in hypnosis/neurolinguistic programming (these are 2 different things), women-centered childbirth education, an instructor level hypnobirth-type affiliation (like Hypnobabies or Mongan Method), AND also has an extensive holistic background that includes certifications in meditation, energy work, and heart-brain coherence through the HeartMath institute.

Ok, so why does all that matter? Because this unique background provides expertise with deep proficiency across inter-related specialties so that the best of the holistic + self-hypnosis world and the best of the birth education world can come together in a grounded, updated, and straight-forward way that is easy to understand. Also, becuase Antonetta is a nationally certified hypnosis practitioner, she is able to fully customize the program to you and your circumstances. We absolutely relish knowledge sharing, helping navigate, and providing tools so that parents can further embody and claim their power – comfortably advocating for themselves and their babies through the birth experience and beyond.

No matter your decision, thank you for embracing and looking into childbirth education. And, thank you for considering Glow Mama.

Hypnobabies was adapted with permission from Master Hypnotherapist Gerald Kein’s “Painless Childbirth Program” techniques, and it was originally developed by sitting down with a group of pregnant women and asking them what they wanted and needed for a comfortable natural birth. Their answers gave him the information he needed to create a hypnosis program that women could easily use to eliminate pain and fear from childbirth, yet be able to move around freely during labor, eat and drink, and communicate their needs to others.

Based on this foundation, Kerry Kerry Tuschhoff (HCHI, CHt. CI and founder and Director of Hypnobabies, LLC) began developing Hypnobabies, a complete childbirth program, based on Gerald Kein’s main Painless Childbirth techniques (he was thrilled!) along with several other great ideas and concepts – adjusting and evolving the program to shape into the successful complete childbirth education and childbirth hypnosis program that it is today!

Hypnobabies uses the same medical hypnosis techniques that people employ when preparing for surgery without any drugs, which is called hypno-anesthesia. Our classes also teach Hypnobabies Birth Partners how to fully support the Hypno-Moms, and Hypnobabies is also used very successfully by single mothers. A willing Birth Partner is a bonus!

No not at all. Hypnobabies® is for all woman who are seeking a safer, more comfortable, self-empowered birth experience whether she is a first-time or experienced mom.

We believe that complete birth preparation includes both parents and we deeply respect the individual journey of each parent. Our unique curriculum will speak to BOTH of you, individually AND as a couple.

Because we believe so strongly in the unique tasks of preparation for mothers and fathers/birth companions, we have a special class just for them, embedded in the full 6 week series. While it is not necessary to have a partner or birth support person, if there is one, partners are included and highlighted in every single class, have their own support materials, and learn various techniques and ways to support through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. We teach the Birth Partner right along with our Hypno-Moms.

They learn what hypnosis is (experiencing it in class and receiving their own Birth Partner’s hypnosis audio tracks), and they learn how to support and help our Hypno-moms during pregnancy, the birthing itself, and even after the baby comes. They participate fully in each class and practices cues, scripts, pre-established anchors, supportive body positioning, as well as how to "hold space" for both mom and baby.

Hypnobabies Birth Partners will learn:

  • Through explanation and demonstrations, what Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis is and how the techniques work.
  • How he/she can help mom stay healthy and low-risk by supporting good nutrition choices.
  • About the importance of the mother doing prenatal exercises during pregnancy to prepare her body for birth.
  • How to determine what position their baby is in based on baby’s kicks and wiggles!
  • That reading hypnosis scripts to the mother will compound the effect of childbirth hypnosis through repetition.
  • That reading hypnosis scripts to mom creates pleasant-feeling brain chemicals like endorphins, oxytocin and dopamines in mom’s body that the baby responds to by ‘playing’ inside her tummy.
  • That babies hear the Birth Partner’s voice during script-reading sessions and learn to associate the Birth Partner’s voice with that happy ‘play’ time (prenatal bonding!).
  • Information about common procedures during birth, and what the risks, benefits and alternatives are to each routine procedure. This information is necessary for planning a “Birth Preferences” list and a “Baby Care Plan”.
  • Specific questions to ask prenatal care-providers in order to gather the information necessary to make educated decisions during pregnancy, birth, during the immediate postpartum period and for baby’s care.
  • Word cues and touch relaxation cues that can instantly deepen the mother’s hypnosis and comfort level during childbirth.
  • How to time pressure waves (contractions) and how to assess the mother’s progress in birthing.
  • How to use non-hypnosis techniques during birth to help facilitate optimal positioning and the descent of the baby.
  • How to support the progress of their baby’s birth by encouraging physical movement, through demonstrations of positions that help.
  • During a hands-on Birth Rehearsal, how to use the hypnosis prompts from the Birth Partner’s Guide, to keep mom relaxed, focused and more comfortable, also what to do if she briefly loses focus.
  • About normal newborn characteristics, and new baby care, breastfeeding and postpartum care for mom.
  • Birth Partners that attend Hypnobabies Classes are also provided with resources:
  • “Birth Partner Relax and Feel Confident” audio track – this is a Hypnobabies hypnosis session created with the Birth Partner’s specific needs in mind. It boosts the Birth Partner’s confidence in his/her role, and to trust in the mother’s body and her ability to give birth.
  • Birth Partner’s Guide – this is a valuable handbook created just for the Hypnobabies Birth Partner. It includes all of the Hypnobabies tips and tools and reminders in one easy-to-use guide so that Birth Partners can access information quickly during the birth process.
  • Birthing Log – this form provides Birth Partner’s with a list of important things to keep track of during birth like pressure waves, mom’s hydration, position changes, and signs of progress.

Babies bring their glow and joy to all kinds of families. One of the reasons I've aligned Glow Mama's birth education + childbirth hypnosis services to Hypnobabies is because

1) it is the best childbirth education and birth hypnosis program on the U.S. market as of today and

2) it really can be easily and successfully done solo

So, yes! If you are a single mom, or one whose significant other will not be able to participate in your Hypnobabies program with you, please feel confident that you can do this by yourself. Even though there are many references to the Birth Partner throughout our course (for the Hypno-moms who do have one), Hypnobabies is easily used very effectively by women who are learning the program by themselves.

Master Hypnotists, Gerald Kein, developed his original “Painless Childbirth” hypnosis techniques (which we use in Hypnobabies), so that women could feel confident doing them alone if they so chose. Our Hypnobabies self-hypnosis and deepening cues are easily learned and used, and we provide you with a “Birth Guide” audio track which is similar to having a Birth Partner whisper powerful Hypnobabies cues and phrases to you through your Birthing Time, keeping you in hypnosis; deeply relaxed and more comfortable. Many Hypnobabies moms have successfully used our program by themselves and had a wonderful birthing, and you can too!

NOTE: All hypnosis program tracks/scripts are expertly recorded and the birth education program is easy to follow individually or as a couple.

Hypnobabies is in no way a “listen only” program like other hypno-programs are, and our results demonstrate that. Listening to Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis tracks alone doesn’t make sense without the detailed instruction in our 2 workbooks and handouts. To have a joyous, easy birth experience requires specific instruction and practice each step of the way to create hypnotic anchors and cues which will become activated instantaneously during labor. With directed daily practice the effects become compounded through repetition. All of this is explained in detail in our 2 workbooks and supplemental handouts and is vital to success with Hypnobabies:

1) There is a great deal of very important information which is designed to educate our wonderful moms why and how their hypnosis tracks work, what order to listen to them in, what information and suggestions are in each track, why each track is important in the program and…

2) How excellent nutrition, exercise and staying healthy & low risk factor into having a safer pregnancy and a much easier birthing…as well as…

3) The risks, benefits and alternatives to common obstetrical procedures and how they affect a normal birth, including thorough consumer issues which present valuable ways to be proactive in creating a more comfortable birth. The understanding of how to easily take responsibility for the decisions made in pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum is critical (for all moms) in creating a much calmer, more relaxed and comfortable birth experience and more positive communications with birth care providers…and…

4) Optimum Fetal Positioning techniques which often make all the difference in the world to excellent birth positioning for baby and therefore an easier (non-surgical) birth.

5) Other subjects covered in Hypnobabies which are all crucial to the efficacy of a positive birth preparation process are:

• Comfort in Pregnancy • Detailed Birthing Choices • Creating Informed Consent • Avoidance of Toxic Substances • Turning a Posterior Baby • Stages of Labor • Anatomy and Physiology of Birth • Prenatal Parenting • Avoiding Back Labor with the Abdominal Lift and Tuck • Baby Kick Counting • Belly Mapping • Birth Empowerment Skills • Birth Plans & Baby Plans • Touring the Birth Facility • Doula and Midwifery information • Avoiding Induction and Cesarean Section • Delayed Cord Clamping and other Baby Kindness information • Using hypnosis for 3rd stage • Comprehensive and detailed birth preparation and labor support training for Birth Partners • A 28 page Quick Reference booklet for labor

Hypnobabies is a course, not a series of audio tracks which can be chosen randomly, listened to randomly in any order for any length of time, or used randomly without the benefit of the additional information we provide.

OK, look, we get it - a 6 week program seems like a big time commitment. So you know, the most complete and effective birth education programs last at least 4-6 weeks and some up to 10 weeks! For childbirth hypnosis/hypnobirth programs, the average is between 5-6 weeks to allow time to cover complete birth education AND the deep work, upgrading, and integration that happens during this time through childbirth hypnosis.

Are there single afternoon and/or shorter birth ed seminars that cover the body mechanics, the menu of offerings a hospital typically offers, and/or an overview of "what to expect" on birth day? Yes. Is that enough to help you and your partner feel ready for birth day? Only you can feel into that and know what's right for you. I fully support and advocate that you do what resonates best for you - whatever that is, do that!

Here's the thing, though. This is going to be one of the biggest, most memorable, and most impactful days of your, your partner, and your baby's life. And, beyond the mechanics, I like to ask parents to really consider what exactly they want, envision, and intend for their child's birth day.

Will you truly feel mentally, physically, emotionally ready? Will you feel heart-centered aligned as you move into this new chapter? Will you be able to go into the experience knowing how to flow with it no matter the circumstances? Will you be able to safely and gently address and clear any fears that may be lingering? Will you know your medical rights? Will you have "real-world" tools that help you everyday through your pregnancy and on birth day and beyond? Will you and your partner go into the experience with true confidence, excitement and joy? Will you be working in a framework and with a birth team that believes birth is a natural, normal, physiological event and not something to be feared or over-managed?

The Hypnobabies program that Glow Mama offers is a complete heart-centered, self-empowering childbirth education course that also includes childbirth hypnosis - that's a lot of ground to cover. Will it require some time, engagement and willingness? Yes because this is not a "listen-only" or a "do to you" or a “let me tell you how you’ll have this experience” type thing - it's a program that prepares and aligns your mind, body, heart (and the birth team) so everyone can work towards a common experience.

The program is spread over several weeks because it is expertly designed to ensure that you have enough time to learn, integrate + practice all of the key information and skills. Also, the face-to-face and self-study setup ensures that you have support as you work through the material. This GREATLY reduces overwhelm, provides structure, and sets you up for success!

In-Person Class v. Self-Study

Both the in-person and self-study program include the same Hypnobabies program content and series of supporting Hypnobabies self-hypnosis tracks for mom and partner. The virtual program, however, does not include the "home study advantage" (which is the in-person birthday walk-through with a certified Hypnobabies Instructor - that's me :), 1x1 support through the program, or the additional support material that I provide via the Glow Series® which intentionally and on-purpose sets you up for 360 success towards your birth goals and provides leading industry resources as well as a deeper lens into key topics like medical rights, informed choice, HeartMath® heart-brain coherence techniques, and how hypnosis and neurolinguistic programming work in the birth space among other important highlights. The Glow Mama Glow Series which covers this ground can be purchased as an add-on for $225.

Insider FYI: I am separately certified and I have been a practicing hypnosis and NLP practitioner longer than I've been in the birth space. And, it is my honest professional opinion that the Hypnobabies tracks are truly the best AND the most comprehensive tracks that I've heard in the childbirth hypnosis space to-date; this is ultimately the reason why I chose to exclusively certify through Hypnobabies for the childbirth ed/hypnosis services offered through Glow Mama.

No – this program is for all births at any location (most Hypnobabies parents are hospital births). All birth is natural birth and we believe that parents deserve respect and support for the birth options that are right for them. Because medical support like epidurals and induction are not perfect, we believe parents should have a variety of ways to cope with the realities and range of unknowns within birth which is why childbirth hypnosis is paired with all-encompassing evidence based birth education. Whether the actual outcome aligns with birth vision perfectly, it’s in the ballpark, or there is a change of plan/special circumstances, we provide the conscious and unconscious tools to be prepared, work with your provider, and maneuver with the flow for a safer, easier, and more comfortable birth experience.

Yes! Hypnobabies® is beneficial to Moms with any of these circumstances.

Perhaps you’re over 31 weeks. Perhaps your partner is fly-in fly-out and can’t make a group course. Maybe there are other special circumstances? It’s not too late! There are always options. Contact me and we can discuss the possibility of alternate arrangements.

In the United States, the 2 big players in the specialized childbirth education with hypnosis are Hypnobabies and the Mongan Method – I have personal and instructor-level experience with both. Yes, both of these programs were designed with certified hypnosis-level foundations and they are both nationally recognized and complete childbirth education classes; the approach, tone, and tools used, however, are very different. And, like all established fields of practice, both the hypnosis world and the birth education world have A LOT of tools in the toolbox to choose from. Additionally, a framework that resonates and is deeply effective for one person may or may not deeply resonate with another.

The childbirth ed/hypnobirth offerings of Glow Mama was previously certified through the Mongan Method, but, as of 2019, I've fully aligned Glow Mama's offerings in this space to the Hypnobabies program. This was a decision that I made intentionally and on purpose. Why? Because I'm also a separately certified and practicing hypnosis and neurolinguistic programming practitioner. Most who teach childbirth ed with hypnosis programs are not independently certified in hypnosis or neurolinguistic programming and this limits them to only working within the prescribed framework in which they are certified. Because of my extensive knowledge and practice in all of these spaces, specifically with hypnosis and neurolinguistic programming, I deeply understand the nuances of the tools being used, the full scope of benefits, and how their application ultimately sets up families for success.

While it is my belief that these programs aim to get parents to the same ballpark (and I do believe both can be effective when engaged with as designed), the tone, style, methods and depth/application of tools used to accomplish this vary greatly. I recommend checking out all of your options and following your heart.

The following are statistics for Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis only (based on our very successful 6 week course, and 18 total hours of instruction):

▷▷ Very comfortabl births ~ 70-75%. Women who report that they felt mostly pressure, tigtening, hugging, or mild cramping sensations

▷▷ Completely comfortable until transition ~ 15%. Women reported they felt pressure only, until the 10-60 minute transitional period, with mild to intense degrees of sensation thereafter. “Very manageable”

▷▷ Comfortable until active labor ~ 10% with mild to intense degrees of sensations therafter. This group can have any number of things that affected their birth experiences: prodromal labor, baby positioning that did not self-correct, special circumstances, inconsistent support, and/or inconsistent use of the program/homeplay practice and engagement (Hypnosis for childbirth won’t help a mother or a couple that is not willing to do the work involved in preparing for their baby’s birth).

▷▷ 100% reported that the Relaxation and Fear Clearing in the Hypnobabies program were invaluable to them during their labors.

General Qs

Zen sessions are great for pregnancy planning, pregnancy, and postpartum integration + self-care for all parents. Through a gentle guided hypnosis-grade meditation, you access the most benevolent + highest frequency energy healing for your physical, emotional, and energy bodies. This session meets you where you're at and then illuminates the path to elevate your systems to the most optimal levels for living in your highest and most nourishing vibration through this chapter.

Zen Sessions are soothing, grounding, and aligned with your highest, purest, and most benevolent self + good. This personalized and relaxing birth integration includes a combination of guided meditation, heart-brain coherence, energy healing, and gong/sound immersion (seated or lying down). This is a wonderful way to integrate, harmonize, and introduce optimal balance for the mind, body, and heart through preparation for pregnancy, for baby’s birthday, and as a powerful integration tool through postpartum. Each session is 60 minutes.

My foundation in energy healing is my Reiki Master, Channeled Light Healing Therapist, meditation guide, and gong sound healing training. The energies of our bodies and Earth have shifted tremendously in the past 5 years and the work I am trained to do supercedes my foundation in Reiki. Energy + Sound can integrate deeply, safely, and gently allowing your frequency to replenish for optimum physical, mental, emotional and spiritual nourishment.

Doulas are typically not medically licensed, but they are professionally trained in all stages of pregnancy, birth, postpartum. Doulas are like you're birthing BFF - whatever happens, they got you and are there to support you! Freaked out partner? Need a partner to hold space for you? Anxiety? Worried you'll forget important information or be overwhelmed/confused if something unexpected happens? Doulas are there to help you understand, be right there with you, and help you advocate. Certified Nurse Midwives are holistically + medically trained in the care of women during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. They monitor and provide health care through pregnancy, birth, and post-partum. They can examine, diagnose, treat, identify complications, and refer out, if needed.

There are AMAZING doulas and midwives coast to coast, and if having this kind of support resonates we definitely recommend looking into it! As always, remember, that anyone - from doctors to midwives to nurses to doulas to family members - that a part of your birth team should be fully supportive of you and your birth plan. You should be informed and treated with mutual respect throughout your experience.
