YOUR COMPLETE BIRTH EDUCATION PROGRAM
HypnoBirthing® is as much of a philosophy as it is a technique based on the belief that babies can be born into the world in an atmosphere that is inherently calm, gentle, and safe for both mother and baby - working with all birth plans/preferences and at any location.
This is a complete holistic childbirth education program (myth busting meets keeping it real) that reminds a woman how to work with her body and how to use extremely effective tools that self-activate deep relaxation and "flow" for a more comfortable, safer, and empowered birthing experience. HypnoBirthing is recommended for the 2nd trimester & beyond (13+ wks). The average class size is 3-6 couples and the investment is the total cost for the entire series.

Frequently Asked Questions
+ WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is a gentle and safe state where a person remains in complete control while relaxing and intentionally focusing their mind in positive, intentional, and purposeful ways; it is a state of state of selective and focused attention.
Typically people in hypnosis feel both fully aware and very relaxed at the same time. And, despite misconceptions, you are definitely conscious and 100% in control during hypnosis. All hypnosis - yes, all of it - is self-hypnosis. A hypnotic state may vary from individual to individual based on their suggestibility and learning system, however, the average client experiences the move into a hypnotic state in the same way they experience being really into a movie, book, or meditative state - hyper single-focused with purpose and intention. The path to hypnosis often feels the same as the path to normal, healthy rest - relaxed and safe.
As it relates to HypnoBirthing®, the mother is able to move into a deeply relaxed state while remaining an active participant (totally aware and may return to a conversant state or move around whenever she desires) during the birthing process. HypnoBirthing moms also often find they experience time distortion (a very short labor and quick birth), are able to rest during birth (body + mind) allowing them to to be able to fully focus on the birthing and her baby.
We'll teach you everything you need to know and provide you and your partner the toolbox and the tools so that you can jump right in. No previous background with self-hypnosis is necessary to get full benefit from HypnoBirthing. You are always aware of everything around you, and as labor progresses, you’ll go deeper inside yourself, trusting in your body’s natural ability to give birth with ease and comfort. By birthday time, your mind is trained and programmed to give you exactly what you need as you give birth to your baby.
I am certified in HypnoBirthing, and I am separately certified as a hypnosis, neurolinguistic prgroamming, and timeline therapy practitioner. You are in very good hands, and you are also 100% in control.
+ IS HYPNOSIS A GOOD FIT FOR EVERYONE?
It is a good fit for most people.
If you have concerns, please connect with your health care provider to ensure hypnosis is a good fit for you. If you or your birthing partner/companion have a history of seizures, mental wellness considerations, are taking any medication with a psychoactive effect, and/or already working with a licensed therapist or clincian, please consult your healhcare provider to ensure this will be a good program for you.
+ WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES?
- Many moms use fewer drugs or no drugs, which means less risk of side effects for you and your baby, due to elimination of the Fear/Tension/Pain Syndrome, and by learning, practicing and using post-hypnotic suggestions.
- Shorter labors since there is less resistance of the birthing muscles when pain and fear are minimized or eliminated.
- Relaxation and sustained energy throughout the entire birthing experience
- The birthing environment is much more calm and peaceful because mom + partner are both relaxed and confident.
- There are fewer interventions for failure to progress and therefore fewer complications during labor for our mothers and babies. Blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature can be lowered and nausea, back and hip pain eliminated with hypnosis during pregnancy and labor.
- Hypnosis for birth “deprograms” the usual negativity and fears surrounding birth which automatically allows for a much more positive attitude and confidence in birthing.
+ IS THIS CLASS FOR FIRST TIME MOMS ONLY?
No not at all. HypnoBirthing® is for all woman who are seeking a safer, more comfortable, self-empowered birth experience whether she is a first-time or experienced mom.
+ HOW DOES HYPNOBIRTHING DIFFER FROM OTHER CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION METHODS?
Other childbirth methods tend to teach you how to ‘cope with and manage pain,’ HypnoBirthing address this head on (through fear-relase, the self-hypnosis and birth education to re-pattern the expectations) and is based on the premise that a healthy woman, with an uncomplicated healthy pregnancy and healthy baby, are able to naturally birth in a more comfortable manner and without unnecessary medical interventions. The focus is on the joy of birth as a natural and normal life experience. When it is understood that pain is caused by constrictor hormones (and fear), they learn how to on purpose tap into and maintain the ‘feel good hormones’ instead. Endorphins are naturally produced when we are calm and happy and the body is able to produce it in unlimited supply - even through birthing. Also, when women and their partners are able to shift their perceptions - adjusting the expectation to a more comfortable and tuned-in birthing experience - there is flow. HypnoBirthing parents learn deep abdominal breathing and total relaxation enabling them to work in harmony with their body and baby (versus exhausting and shallow breathing or distraction techniques that don't address the deeper levels of stress that cause constriction). This allows them to achieve an often shorter and more comfortable birth for both mom and baby.
+ HOW IS THE BIRTH PARTNER INVOLVED?
While it is not necessary to have a partner, if there is one, they learn various techniques and ways to support through pregnancy, birth and beyond. He or she practices with the mother to assist her during labor using hypnosis, pre-established anchors, relaxation techniques, visualizations, light touch massage, and "holding space" for both mom and baby.
+ WHY HYPNOSIS FOR BIRTH?
Good, solid birth education, affirmations, and visualization are tools that work with the conscious (our everyday thinking) mind and they are extremely important for the mental preparation of the birth experience/create awareness around what to expect.
Self-hypnosis, advanced deepening techniques, and a purposeful practice of relaxation/mindful breathing are the tools that work with the sub/unconscious minds on purpose and with intention - and by extension our autonomic and automatic body responses. In birth, all systems are a go and alignment of the mental, emotional, and body systems are what ultimately creates a safer, easier, and more comfortable physical expereince overall. Birth hypnosis aims to target and release both known and unknown fears/anxieties a person may be holding around birth. And, through self-hypnosis, the invidual then creates their own custom, very efficient "super highway" to the part of the inner-self that holds their "control panel." Parents customize their personal control panels, create clear instructions for their mind and body, and then practice using their "control panel" over and over so that when it's birthday time, all of the tools are ready, available, and the mind, heart, and body are working in alignment.
VERY cool stuff!
+ CAN HYPNOBIRTHING® BE BENEFICIAL TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS OR HAS SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES THAT REQUIRE AN EPIDURAL, C-SECTION, OR IS PREPARING FOR A VBAC (VAGINAL BIRTH AFTER CESAREAN)?
Yes! HypnoBirthing® is beneficial to Moms with any of these circumstances.
+ WHAT DO I DO IF I'M REALLY FAR ALONG (I DEF DON'T HAVE 5 WEEKS) OR I CAN’T MAKE IT TO ALL OF THE CLASSES?
Perhaps you’re over 36 weeks. Perhaps your partner is fly-in fly-out and can’t make a group course. Maybe there are other special circumstances? It’s not too late! There are always options. Contact me and we can discuss the possibility of alternate arrangements.
+ WHY THE FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES FOR 4-5 WEEKS? WOULDN’T IT JUST BE CHEAPER/EASIER TO BUY A HYPNOSIS TRACK OR GET A VIRTUAL PROGRAM?
Possibly and, as always, we support and advocate that you do what resonates best for you - whatever that is, do that! This program is face-to-face and spread over several weeks because it is expertly designed to ensure that you have enough time to learn, integrate + practice all of the key information and skills. Also, the face-to-face setup ensures that you have support as you work through the material. This greatly reduces overwhelm, provides structure, and sets you up for success!
+ I'M NOT IN AUSTIN BUT I'M INTERESTED IN HYPNOBIRTHING. WHERE CAN I FIND PRACTITIONERS CLOSE TO ME?
You can find certified HypnoBirthing instructors here.
+ WHAT IS A DOULA? WHAT IS A MIDWIFE?
Doulas are typically not medically licensed, but they are professionally trained in all stages of pregnancy, birth, postpartum. OB/GYNs and Certified Nurse Midwives are medically licensed to care for women in all stages of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. Doulas are like you're birthing BFF - whatever happens, they got you and are there to support you! Freaked out partner? Need a partner to hold space for you? Anxiety? Worried you'll forget important information or be overwhelmed/confused if something unexpected happens? Doulas are there to help you understand, be right there with you, and help you advocate. Per your preferences, they help hold space during pregnancy, the birth, and postpartum in a way that works for you and honors your wishes. Certified Nurse Midwives are holistically + medically trained in the care of women during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. They monitor and provide health care through pregnancy, birth, and post-partum. They can examine, diagnose, treat, identify complications, and refer out, if needed. There are AMAZING doulas and midwives coast to coast, and if having this kind of support resonates we definitely recommend looking into it! As always, remember, that anyone - from doctors to midwives to nurses to doulas to family members - that a part of your birth team should be fully supportive of you and your birth plan. You should be informed and treated with mutual respect throughout your experience.
